Visit of Asst. Prof. Yi-Rong Chen from National Central University, Taiwan

At the end of September 2026, ITT had the pleasure of welcoming Assistant Professor Yi-Rong Chen from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Central University (NCU), Taiwan. Prof. Chen works in the field of thermal and fluid sciences, where he leads the laboratory together with Prof. Steven Shy and is set to succeed him.

Prof. Chen completed his PhD under Prof. Shy at NCU and then spent more than two years at the Institute of Fluid Science of Tohoku University in Japan, working on two-phase reacting flows of liquid ammonia. In February 2026 he returned to NCU as Assistant Professor, joining the very laboratory where he had completed his doctorate.

ITT and Prof. Shy's group have been cooperating for many years, combining experiments at NCU with numerical simulations at ITT. Prof. Chen was already part of this cooperation as a doctoral student and is co-author of many joint publications.

The visit was used to discuss future joint projects. As his background is experimental, Prof. Chen also received an introduction to ITT's in-house simulation tools, so that experiments and simulations can be linked even more closely in future.

We thank Prof. Chen for the stimulating exchange and look forward to continuing the cooperation with NCU, one of Taiwan's leading research universities.
